The Wedding of my Stepdaughter

I'm finally taking the time to write about my stepdaughter's wedding. Can you believe it that it's already close to three weeks since it happened. Where did the time go?
I'm glad that I wrote my thoughts and feelings in my daily journal. It's amazing how fast things get blurry. After picking my son and granddaughter at the airport, getting all the stuff ready for the guests and meeting up with Julie's in-laws, we were now ready for the big day.

We are off. We left Saturday morning with all our stuff packed for my stepdaughter’s wedding. WOW! A lot of stuff is needed. I had not realized all that we were to bring, but we are happy to be a part of such an important day.

In two days, my husband and I leave for a two week trip to go to my oldest stepdaughter's wedding. We will be travelling in our RV taking about 5 days to get to Key West, where the wedding is being held. We then plan on driving back within 5 days, making various stops along the way to take time to be together.
This is really a special event for me as a stepmom. It is a time that I am there as someone to support my husband as well as well as stepdaughter in the most important day in her life. My contribution to my stepdaughter's special day is based on my love for her and not necessarily on duty. As a Stepmom, I choose to be there rather than have to. I helped her with various plans such as the music, the design of the program, the place setting, etc.

Last Sunday, I was in Washington DC to see my oldest stepdaughter run a 10K run (I was told not to call it a marathon because real runners would let me know). It was a great day, the sun was shining and the cherry blossoms were beautiful. There were people everywhere.
This is our second time coming to this event to encourage Julie in her endeavor of running. We are so very impressed with her because, you see, Julie never did any physical activities at home. She was more of a book worm. She much rather prefered staying in her room and read than go outside and play.
Who am I ?

Sometimes I get up in the morning wondering who I am. Why am I here? What's my purpose? And I think back to when I met my husband and his two daughters. I am thinking how wonderful life will be with these two beautiful girls, sisters to my son and we just grow and become one big happy family.
I've always wanted to be a mom, The mom that has fun with her kids, makes them cookies and clothes, and is there with them at their school rehearsal and games. I just wanted to be a part of their lives when they graduate and get married and have kids of their own.
Best Stepmom Gift Ever

This is a story I wrote a few days ago for another post and thought it would be appropriate here. It is written with the permission and approval of my stepdaughter.
My stepdaughter Julie and I often were at odds with each other when she was in her teens. I felt we were competing for a place in the house and in my husband's life. It was really frustrating because in my head, I knew that there could never be competition between my husband's daughter and me because we both belong and had our place within this family. But still it was hard. It was even harder when she left for college and told us that she was so glad to leave this place and wasn't planning on coming back any time real soon. It broke my husband's heart but I felt I had failed as a stepmother. I kept wondering what I could have done better, said differently or if it was a good idea for me to have stayed around.
