A great summer read: "The Package Deal" by Izzy Rose

I love to read. It’s one of my passions. So when I received a book from Izzy Rose called “The Package Deal: The (not-so) Glamorous Transition from Single Gal to Instant Mom”(available at Amazon), I was very intrigued. Most books on Stepmotherhood talk about the research done, things to do, ways to deal with issues, but Izzy’s book was different.
For one thing, there’s humor. We all need some humor in our lives and the way we approach our issues say a lot about who we are. Izzy came into becoming an instant mom with some prior knowledge, having come from a divorced and remarried family herself. She had a stepmom and stepdad as well as two stepsisters. So she saw first hand that it wasn’t easy.
The Wedding of my Stepdaughter

I'm finally taking the time to write about my stepdaughter's wedding. Can you believe it that it's already close to three weeks since it happened. Where did the time go?
I'm glad that I wrote my thoughts and feelings in my daily journal. It's amazing how fast things get blurry. After picking my son and granddaughter at the airport, getting all the stuff ready for the guests and meeting up with Julie's in-laws, we were now ready for the big day.

We are off. We left Saturday morning with all our stuff packed for my stepdaughter’s wedding. WOW! A lot of stuff is needed. I had not realized all that we were to bring, but we are happy to be a part of such an important day.
Leaving for my Stepdaughter's wedding

In two days, my husband and I leave for a two week trip to go to my oldest stepdaughter's wedding. We will be travelling in our RV taking about 5 days to get to Key West, where the wedding is being held. We then plan on driving back within 5 days, making various stops along the way to take time to be together.
This is really a special event for me as a stepmom. It is a time that I am there as someone to support my husband as well as well as stepdaughter in the most important day in her life. My contribution to my stepdaughter's special day is based on my love for her and not necessarily on duty. As a Stepmom, I choose to be there rather than have to. I helped her with various plans such as the music, the design of the program, the place setting, etc.
My son's engagement and what this will mean to his fiancee

My son called me last week to announce to us that he finally asked his girlfriend of 20 months to marry him. She said yes. We were very happy because we know that he loves her very much. They have their issues and like all couples, they will learn to manage them.
One area that I hope to help them with, or at least be supportive of is Sami’s role as a stepmother. My granddaughter loves Sami very much and they never had a problem. At 5, Taylor is a very loving and affectionate little girl. She loves to dress up and to get dirty in the mud. Taylor loves to hang around Sami and Sami loves to be with Taylor
